Funatsu Tainai Lava Tree Mold
Touch the mystery of nature in the lava tree molds cave
About 68m long Funatsu Tainai lava tree molds were created lava from Mt. Fuji 1000 years ago. A lava flow coated trees and burned the insides leaving lava shells. Inside the molds resemble the inside of a body, were considered a sacred site, where Fuji-ko adherents used to purify themselves and pray for safety before climbing Mt. Fuji. More than 60 tree molds scattering in this area, are designated as a natural monument in Japan.
